Lynn Williams, a forward for the U.S. women’s national soccer team, revealed on TikTok that she accidentally broke her gold medal while celebrating their victory at the Paris Olympics. After helping her team secure a 1-0 win against Brazil in the final, Williams partied a little too hard at a Nike celebration event, where the medal, slung over her shoulder like a purse, fell off while she was dancing and jumping.

The 31-year-old joked that she had turned her medal into the world’s “most expensive coaster” after the ribbon bar detached. Despite the damage, which left a dent in the medal, Williams remained lighthearted, calling it “one-of-a-kind.” Her team has contacted the International Olympic Committee to see if a repair or replacement is possible. Williams humorously added that the medals should have been made sturdier, joking that she couldn’t be blamed for the mishap.
