Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, tragically died last month at 33 due to an accidental overdose involving fentanyl, codeine, alprazolam, and promethazine. The Fulton County medical examiner confirmed his death as accidental. Quan was found unresponsive by his significant other on September 5th, after his brother had earlier found him asleep on the kitchen floor and moved him to the couch.

Known for hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” Quan had spoken openly about his drug use on the hip-hop podcast “My Expert Opinion.” He revealed that heavy drug use, including Molly and “lean,” escalated during his rise to fame. Despite his struggles, he was recognized as one of XXL’s coveted Freshman Class in 2014, alongside artists like Chance the Rapper and Ty Dolla $ign.

Emergency services were called after his girlfriend found him unresponsive, with 911 audio capturing her desperate attempts to revive him. Sadly, Rich Homie Quan was pronounced dead shortly after, marking the loss of a significant voice in the hip-hop community.
