University of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has missed the team’s summer football camps, citing an unspecified health concern.

According to USA Today, Sanders’ son, Deion Sanders Jr., mentioned during a YouTube livestream on Sunday that his father is currently resting in Canyon, Texas, and is “feeling well.”

“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” Sanders Jr. said in the video. He noted that it’s still uncertain when the family will return to Boulder, where the football camps began on June 3.

“I’m waiting until my dad leaves,” he added. “When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”

The University of Colorado declined to provide any further comment on the situation as of Tuesday.

In addition to missing the camps, Sanders also pulled out of a scheduled appearance at a Sunday event for the Foundation for Sickle Cell Research. Event organizers cited an “unavoidable last-minute scheduling change” as the reason for his absence and confirmed that Earvin “Magic” Johnson would take over as keynote speaker, according to a post on X.

Sanders briefly addressed his health during a podcast interview with Asante Samuel that aired live on May 30. At the close of the conversation, Samuel said, “I hope you’re feeling better,” to which Sanders responded, “What I’m dealing with right now is at a whole other level. You know what, honestly, I’ve done no media, I’ve done nothing … I’ve lost, like, 14 pounds.”

Now 57, Sanders has been candid about his medical history. He previously underwent toe amputations following complications from routine foot surgery and endured a nine-hour surgical procedure on his foot in 2023.
