The New York Jets have informed Aaron Rodgers that he will not return as their quarterback next season. The decision was made by head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, who met with Rodgers to discuss the team’s new direction. Owner Woody Johnson expressed gratitude for Rodgers’ contributions but confirmed the team is moving on.

One of the Jets’ conditions of him returning is for him to stop featuring on The Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers joined the Jets in 2023 after a trade with the Green Bay Packers, but his tenure was turbulent. Just four plays into his first season, he tore his Achilles and missed the year. In 2024, he was fined for skipping a mandatory practice and had a strained relationship with then-head coach Robert Saleh, whose firing fueled further speculation. Rodgers struggled on the field, posting career lows in completion percentage, yards per attempt, and passer rating. Reports also surfaced that he resisted medical scans out of concern for being sidelined.

Despite telling ESPN in November that New York was his “first option” if he continued playing, Rodgers now faces an uncertain future. The Jets owe him $23.5 million next season, with significant salary cap implications if he is cut or traded. After the Jets’ final game, Rodgers said he would accept whatever decision the team made.
