Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday on a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired, according to jail records. The arrest came hours after he attended the team’s NFL Draft party at U.S. Bank Stadium, where he participated as a guest alumnus and appeared on KFAN radio.

Minnesota State Patrol pulled Peterson over at around 3:20 a.m. for speeding—clocked at 83 mph in a 55 zone. A breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration was 0.14, nearly twice the legal limit. He was booked at 5:16 a.m. and later released after posting a $4,000 bond. He faces a fourth-degree DWI charge and is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

Adrian Peterson was charged with DWI after a Vikings draft party.

Peterson, who was selected seventh overall by the Vikings in the 2007 NFL Draft, spent a decade with the franchise and earned league MVP honors in 2012. Regarded as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, he rushed for over 14,000 yards in his career.

Despite his on-field success, Peterson’s reputation has been marred by several off-field incidents. From 2009 to 2011, he was cited three times for traffic violations, including speeding and not wearing a seatbelt. In 2014, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor reckless assault charge in Texas after admitting he disciplined his 4-year-old son with a switch. The NFL suspended him for the remainder of that season after just one game.

Peterson played for six different teams in the final five years of his career and officially retired in 2021.
