Alec Baldwin reported that he and his brother are “doing fine” after being involved in a car crash in East Hampton, New York on Monday. Baldwin said in an Instagram video that he and his brother Stephen were involved in a crash while Baldwin was driving his wife’s car with Stephen as the passenger. A huge garbage truck cut the Baldwins off, causing Baldwin to swerve off the road and hit a tree.

The actor said that the truck was “the size of a whale” and that in swerving to avoid the truck it crushed the car. “To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree,” Baldwin revealed. “Pretty smashed up.” Despite the crash, nobody was hurt and both he and his brother were able to walk from the scene unhurt.

Police report concurs with Baldwin’s version of affair

According to a public announcement issued by the East Hampton Police Department the facts accord with Baldwin’s version of the affair. The crash occurred about noon on State Route 27, and involved a white 2023 Range Rover, which crashed into a tree on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway. The police said that the car was forcing the driver to swerve his vehicle to avoid a 2020 Mack commercial truck, which was owned by the National Waste Services of Bay Shore, New York.

The authorities stated that no tickets were given for the accident, and no injuries whatsoever resulted. According to the report, “The contributory causes of the accident were found to be a swerving in reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the wet and slippery conditions of the roadway.” A spokesman for Baldwin refused to comment further.

Baldwin thanks police, reflects on film festival

Baldwin during the video remained calm, and appreciatory, and took the time out to thank the East Hampton police department and the officer who helped them. He also tendered congratulations to the organizers of the Hamptons International Film Festival which he and Stephen had attended over the week-end.

“That was all right, and I am all right, and my brother is all right,” he said. “I am on my way to Los Angeles to see my family,” and he concluded the video in a thankful tone although the crash was rather unlooked for.
