Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu is adjusting her short program for the 2025–26 season and will no longer use music from artist D4vd after authorities opened a death investigation into D4vd. Liu was planning to skate to “This Is How It Feels,” a song by D4vd and Laufey, but changed direction when authorities found the body of a teenage girl in D4vd’s impounded Tesla.

In a statement on Instagram, Liu said, “My team & I are comfortably selecting a different approach that reflects my values & just my whole vibe.” Liu did not mention the artist by name in the statement, but a rep did confirm it was based on “the situation involving d4vd.”

Alysa Liu Drops Skating Program Linked to D4vd Amid Death Probe
The body found in the Tesla is confirmed to be 15-year-old, Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez – 15 years old – and D4vd’s Tesla was the trunk of the vehicle where they found Hernande’s remains. Police say the Tesla was left on the street unattended for a month before being towed and searched.  His representative said D4vd is cooperating with all authorities.

Police also reportedly searched a home near where the Tesla was located, and claimed to have recovered digital devices and other evidence that tied Hasngn and the area. The coroner had not established a cause of death and police say they still process additional evidence.

Liu Adjusts Her Season

Liu, who finished 6th at the 2022 Beijing Olympics used the news of the withdrawal to publish his program in. Liu told The Associated Press the news came as a creative restart. “I felt like I was almost mourning the process – ‘Oh, I have my programs. They were going to grow and change.’” Liu said. “And it’s like “I want a fresh start.” Before next program is made, Liu can return to programs from the past. “I want to make sure I’m not rushed in my creative process,” Liu said, “Thank-you for supporting me!”

As the investigation continues against D4vd, Liu’s decision highlights how more and more elite athletes regard the reputational risk of those with whom they partner with. No charges have been filed against DFvd, Liu’s decision demonstrates solidarity and a willingness to sacrifice something for integrity and for walking.
