Amazon MGM Studios is set to take creative control of the James Bond franchise under a new joint venture with longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. While Wilson and Broccoli will remain co-owners, Amazon will oversee the franchise’s future direction, solidifying its grip on the iconic spy series.

After acquiring MGM in 2022, Amazon gained distribution rights to all Bond films, but this deal formalizes its influence over 007’s cinematic future. Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed gratitude to the late Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman for bringing Bond to theaters and acknowledged Wilson and Broccoli’s role in maintaining the franchise’s legacy. He emphasized Amazon’s commitment to leading Bond’s next chapter.

Wilson announced he is stepping back from producing to focus on art and charitable projects, while Broccoli said she is shifting her attention to other ventures. Their departure raises questions about the franchise’s direction, especially following No Time to Die (2021), Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond. Amazon MGM Studios has not revealed details about the next installment, but in a post on X, Jeff Bezos asked his nearly 7 million followers to weigh in on who should be the next 007.
