Billboard issued an apology to Taylor Swift on Thursday after including a controversial clip of her nude wax figure in a social media video celebrating her career. The footage, taken from rapper Ye’s 2016 “Famous” music video, shows wax figures of several celebrities, including Swift, depicted nude. Billboard acknowledged the mistake, stating it had “falsely depicted her” and expressing regret for the harm caused.

The video was part of Billboard’s series unveiling the top pop stars of the 21st century, with Swift ranking No. 2. The segment that sparked backlash featured a recap of Swift’s feud with Ye and Kim Kardashian, accompanied by the disputed clip.

“We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers,” Billboard said in a statement, announcing the clip’s removal. Swift’s representatives have yet to comment.

Swift previously labeled the “Famous” video as “revenge porn” in a 2019 Tumblr post. Her devoted fanbase, the Swifties, quickly condemned Billboard, leading to the hashtag #BillboardIsOverParty trending on X. Fans criticized the clip’s inclusion as disrespectful and questioned her placement as the second-best pop star.

Billboard plans to reveal its No. 1 pick for greatest pop star of the 21st century on Dec. 3.
