The Kansas City Chiefs’ most remarkable catch on Sunday wasn’t during their win against the Carolina Panthers, but after the game, when defensive lineman Tershawn Wharton caught a young fan who fell from the stands.

The heart-stopping moment, captured on video at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, shows the child leaning forward from a lower-level stand toward players before suddenly tumbling. Wharton’s quick reflexes saved the boy, whom he lifted back into the stands.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Wharton described the rescue as a “natural reaction.” He recounted hearing his name called as he was preparing to throw his gloves into the crowd when he saw the child falling. “It was two security guards right there. I don’t think they realized what I was doing,” he added.

Wharton, 26, hopes to reconnect with the child and plans to invite him to another Chiefs game.
