Chris Brown, the R&B artist and rapper facing trial in the United Kingdom next month over an alleged 2023 nightclub assault, has been released on $6.7 million bail following a court hearing held Wednesday.

At 36, Brown is now legally allowed to proceed with his scheduled tour across the U.K. and Ireland, which opens in Manchester on June 15—just two days after his trial is expected to begin in London.

During the session at Southwark Crown Court, Judge Tony Baumgartner authorized the conditional release, setting bail at £5 million (approximately $6.7 million). The sum will be forfeited if Brown fails to meet the conditions or does not appear at his upcoming court date, according to reporting from the British Press Association.

Chris Brown has an expected tour of the UK and Ireland on June.

Brown did not attend the bail hearing in person.

He stands accused of grievous bodily harm for allegedly hurling a tequila bottle at a nightclub in Manchester last year. As of now, no plea has been entered in the case.

Brown’s legal troubles stretch back years. In 2009, he pled guilty to felony assault after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna. The incident was widely publicized and led to significant public backlash and legal consequences.

In 2017, a judge granted Karrueche Tran, another of Brown’s ex-girlfriends, a five-year restraining order due to allegations of abuse. More recently, Brown faced a civil suit accusing him of drugging and raping a woman aboard a yacht in 2020. That case was ultimately dismissed in 2022 when neither party appeared for a scheduled hearing, as noted by NBC Palm Springs.
