Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury in Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees, worrying fans as the Dodgers vie for the championship title. In the seventh inning, Ohtani attempted to steal second base, injuring his left shoulder in the slide. Afterward, he was escorted off the field by team staff.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts later shared that Ohtani experienced a shoulder subluxation but noted the team felt “encouraged by his strength and range of motion.” The injury, reported by Fox Sports, occurred just a day after Ohtani contributed to the Dodgers’ comeback win in Game 1, scoring a run in the 10th inning on a Freddie Freeman grand slam.

Fox broadcaster Joe Davis mentioned that a Japanese news outlet had reported Ohtani saying he felt his shoulder “pop” during the slide, with co-commentator John Smoltz expressing concern for how the injury could impact the remainder of the series.

Ohtani joined the Dodgers this season after six years with the Los Angeles Angels, earning a reputation as a rare two-way player excelling as both a hitter and pitcher. Due to recent elbow surgery, he has only been playing as a designated hitter this season but remains a top contender for the National League MVP. The Dodgers now hold a 2-0 lead over the Yankees as the series heads to New York.
