A Florida woman was arrested for allegedly drowning her dog in an Orlando airport bathroom after being denied permission to bring the animal on a flight.

Alison Lawrence, 57, was taken into custody Tuesday for the incident, which occurred on December 16 at Orlando International Airport. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WESH, Lawrence arrived at the airport with her 9-year-old miniature schnauzer, Tywinn, but was informed she lacked the necessary paperwork to bring the dog aboard.

Alison Lawrence was arrested after police connected her to a dead animal found in an Orlando International Airport bathroom last year.

Surveillance footage showed Lawrence entering an airport bathroom, where an employee later found her cleaning up water and food on the floor of a stall. When the worker returned to empty a trash bag, they discovered the dog’s body inside, along with its collar and identification tag. Animal services later confirmed the dog’s identity through its microchip, and an autopsy determined drowning as the cause of death.

The affidavit described Lawrence’s actions as “extreme and tragic.” She was arrested in Lake County and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
