Billy Vigar, a 21-year-old ex-Arsenal academy player has sadly passed away as result of a trauma induced brain injury from an unfortunate head clash in a football game last week. The forward, who played for Chichester City FC collapsed during a game against Wingate & Finchley FC. The club confirmed his passing on Thursday.

“Following a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put into an induced coma. On the Tuesday, he underwent an operation to assist and support any potential recovery,” Chichester City FC said. “While this helped, it turned out to be too much for him and he passed on Thursday morning.”

Vigar joined the Arsenal academy in 2017, as a 14-year-old, describing the scouting day as “the biggest day of my life.” Although he moved into semi-professional ranks, primarily at Chichester City in the Isthmian League, him passion for football never wavered.

“In our thoughts and hearts, Billy will be with the beautiful game, the joy he took from playing for our club, and a personality that was loved by all of his friends, teammates, and coaches,” Arsenal said in a statement. They also extended condolences to his family and friends.

Chichester City FC, a club trying to make a life in the seventh tier of English football, expressed their sadness a tragic loss of a wonderful, young man. His legacy lived on the pitch after numerous personal condolences from the Football family, to honor Vigar.
