NFL legend and former New York Giants star Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Florida this week for failing to report a residence change as a sex offender. Taylor, 65, turned himself in to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday on a felony warrant. The Pembroke Pines Police Department stated that Taylor failed to update his registered address, as required by law.

Taylor’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, called the situation “a significant misunderstanding” and stated that Taylor will plead not guilty to the charge.

Taylor’s legacy as one of the greatest players in NFL history was tarnished after his 2010 arrest on rape and prostitution charges involving a 16-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in 2011, receiving probation and a requirement to register as a sex offender.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer has had multiple legal issues, including arrests for leaving the scene of an accident in 1996 and 2009, and a 2016 DUI arrest in Florida.

This recent arrest is not Taylor’s first for failing to report a residence change. In December 2021, he was arrested in Broward County for the same reason and released on bond after several hours, NBC Miami reported.

Taylor was released on bail on Thursday. His attorney remains confident that once prosecutors review the evidence, Taylor will be found innocent of the current charges.
