The family of Hannah Kobayashi, a Hawaii woman recently found safe after going missing in Southern California, is offering refunds to donors who contributed to a GoFundMe campaign supporting search efforts.

In an update on Thursday, Kobayashi’s sister, Sydni, announced that donations were turned off and refund requests would be honored until Dec. 18. Over $46,000 had been raised to fund the search and cover funeral expenses for their father, Ryan Kobayashi, who died by suicide during the ordeal.

Kobayashi disappeared on Nov. 8 after missing her connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York City. Days later, she sent messages to her family claiming she felt unsafe and feared identity theft. Security footage later revealed she had crossed into Mexico on foot.

The Los Angeles Police Department concluded there was no evidence of human trafficking or foul play, stating that she missed her flight intentionally. Meanwhile, her family continues to investigate whether she may have been involved in an immigration marriage scam.
