Harvey Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery on Monday after being transferred from Rikers Island to a hospital due to health complications. The disgraced movie mogul, who had his 2020 rape conviction overturned in April, is recovering in the ICU at Bellevue Hospital. Weinstein, 72, underwent a pericardiocentesis procedure to remove fluid from his heart and lungs but remains in stable condition despite ongoing health issues.

Weinstein has struggled with various ailments, including diabetes and spinal stenosis, and was hospitalized earlier this year for Covid-19 and pneumonia. He is currently serving a 16-year sentence for sex offenses in Los Angeles, though his New York conviction was overturned. A grand jury in New York is considering bringing new charges against him. Over 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual assault and harassment, though he maintains all encounters were consensual.
