Rapper Azealia Banks issued a cease-and-desist letter to The 1975 frontman Matty Healy after he threatened to slap her during a heated exchange on X. The letter, prepared by her attorney Wallace Collins, accuses Healy of defamation and violent threats, demanding he cease further comments, issue a public apology, and pay $1 million in damages.

Banks shared the letter on X, but the post was removed for violating platform rules. Her lawyer confirmed the authenticity of the document, asserting that Banks stands by its claims.

The dispute began when Healy criticized Banks’ comments about Charli XCX. He accused Banks of jealousy, prompting her to insult Healy and his fiancée, Gabbriette Bechtel. The argument escalated, with Healy threatening violence in a now-deleted post.

In response, Banks announced her intent to sue, citing severe emotional distress and physical symptoms, including migraines and muscle tension, which required hospital treatment.

Healy apologized before deactivating his X account, reportedly writing, “I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl. That’s insane. I’m sorry.” On Reddit, he reflected on his behavior, calling it “self-destructive” and acknowledging its impact on Banks’ mental health.

Despite Healy’s apology and removal of the posts, Banks’ attorney maintains that the harm remains and demands resolution through public acknowledgment and monetary compensation.
