John Ramsey, father of JonBenét Ramsey, expressed renewed hope that advances in DNA technology could finally solve his daughter’s nearly 28-year-old murder. Speaking on NBC’s TODAY, the 80-year-old said, “We want to keep the case alive and in front of people. I believe it can be solved if the police accept help from outside their system.”

The case, which gained international attention after 6-year-old JonBenét was found strangled in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home in December 1996, remains unsolved. Ramsey criticized Boulder police for their reluctance to seek external assistance but noted optimism following a meeting with the city’s new police chief, Steve Redfearn, who pledged to prioritize the investigation and collaborate with DNA experts.

The upcoming Netflix docuseries, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, directed by Joe Berlinger, aims to reexamine the case for a new generation. Berlinger stated, “It’s a very clear-eyed examination of how it’s so obvious this was an intruder.”

Ramsey hopes renewed attention may lead to a critical tip, saying, “Hopefully someone who knows something will come forward.” He remains determined to clear his family’s name, which has been clouded by decades of conspiracy theories. “I’m doing this for my children and grandchildren. This chapter needs to close so they can move on with their lives.”
