“Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings highlighted a “problematic” answer on Monday’s episode and issued a quick apology to contestant Heather Ryan.

Jeopardy contestant, Heather Ryan.

The moment unfolded when Ryan chose the $400 clue in the “Complete the Rhyming Phrase” category. Jennings read aloud, “Men rarely make passes at…,” leading fellow contestant Will Wallace to buzz in with the correct answer, “girls who wear glasses,” a quote from Dorothy Parker. Ryan, the episode’s only female contestant and a glasses-wearer, received an immediate apology from Jennings, who acknowledged, “Yeah, a little problematic. Sorry, Heather.”

Wallace nodded in agreement, adding, “Very.” Without further comment, Ryan continued to play, answering the next rhyming phrase: “risk it for the biscuit.”

The episode concluded with Ryan coming in second, losing by just $1 to Ian Taylor. “Jeopardy!” has not commented on the incident.
