Kendrick Lamar shocked fans with the unannounced release of his sixth studio album, GNX, on Friday. The rapper shared a teaser hours before making the album available on streaming platforms.

GNX includes 12 tracks, highlighted by “squabble up,” first previewed in the music video for his chart-topping diss track “Not Like Us.” This marks Lamar’s first album since 2022’s Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.

The album opens with “wacced out murals,” a song referencing Lamar’s critique of modern rap and past controversies. The track nods to an untitled release from September and the backlash he faced following his announcement as the next Super Bowl halftime show headliner.

Fans have flooded social media with excitement over the new project. The album also cements a climactic year for Lamar, who emerged triumphant in his feud with Drake. Their diss tracks culminated in Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned multiple Grammy nominations.

True to form, Lamar added another installment to his “The Heart” series with “heart pt. 6,” unfazed by Drake’s attempt to co-opt the title earlier this year. GNX also features SZA on two tracks and production work by Jack Antonoff.
