Lauryn Hill and her son, YG Marley, turned the 2024 BET Awards into a family reunion with a memorable performance at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 30. Hill, 49, began the set with a heartfelt rendition of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” the title track of her iconic 1998 album.

Dressed in a flowing black dress, yellow cape, sunglasses, and a shimmering head covering, Hill transitioned into her single “Lost Ones,” energizing the crowd. She also freestyled a verse about activism and equality, reminiscent of her performance on The Tonight Show in May, where she also performed with Marley.

Marley, grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, joined his mother onstage to perform his single “Survival,” which includes songwriting credits from Hill and an interpolation of his grandfather’s “Ambush in the Night.” He then performed his 2023 track “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.”

Hill’s Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean joined them to perform their 1995 rap track “Fu-Gee-La,” closing the award ceremony.

Hill and Marley previously performed together on The Tonight Show, delivering a soulful rendition of “Ex-Factor” and Marley’s singles “Survival” and “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.”

The duo will continue their performances later this summer on an extension of Hill’s Miseducation Anniversary tour, postponed in November due to Hill’s vocal issues. Hill will reunite with her Fugees bandmates, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, with Marley as a special guest.

Hill announced the new tour dates on June 24 via social media, stating, “The Celebration Continues…” This announcement follows the 25th anniversary of her debut album, which has achieved critical acclaim and topped Apple Music’s 100 best albums of all time list. Hill expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is my award, but it’s a rich, deep narrative, and involves so many people, and so much sacrifice, and so much time, and so much collective love.”
