Three-time Emmy-winning journalist and respected Los Angeles news anchor Chauncy Glover has passed away unexpectedly at age 39, his family confirmed in a statement to KCAL. Glover, who co-anchored KCAL News’ 5 and 11 p.m. broadcasts alongside Pat Harvey and the 8 and 10 p.m. newscasts with Suzie Suh, had recently celebrated his first year on the anchor team after joining in October 2023.

In the heartfelt statement, his family expressed their deep grief, describing Glover as “more than a son and brother — a beacon of light” whose loss is “unimaginable.” The family has not released details about his cause of death.

A native of Alabama, Glover made history as the first Black male main anchor for Houston’s KTRK, where he worked for eight years. His career also spanned Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Texas before he joined KCAL in Los Angeles. Beyond journalism, Glover’s legacy includes The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentoring initiative he founded to support inner-city teenage boys by teaching skills like college readiness, etiquette, public speaking, and financial literacy. The program has left a lasting impact on many young lives, helping participants develop into “upstanding and accomplished gentlemen.”

In his final Instagram post, Glover reflected on his journey at KCAL, captioning a video with, “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going! My first year in #LA on #kcalnews #cbsla in the books! God is good!”

The family’s statement further honored his “compassion and dedication” through the Project, noting that his “talent, warmth, and vision” touched everyone who knew him. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and requested privacy as they grieve, adding that while he was taken “far too soon,” his influence and legacy will endure.
