Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons has formally requested a trade, claiming the team has refused to negotiate a new contract. Parsons made the announcement Friday via a post on X, writing, “Thank you Dallas,” alongside a statement saying he no longer wanted to be part of the organization. Despite reporting to training camp in California last week, Parsons now says the front office hasn’t negotiated in good faith and that executive vice president Stephen Jones was told directly of his trade request. The Cowboys have not responded publicly to the situation.

Breakdown in Contract Talks

Parsons, 26, is entering the final season of his rookie deal and is scheduled to earn $24 million, though he’s seeking a long-term contract worth more than $40 million per year. His on-field performance backs the request: since sacks became official in 1982, only he and Reggie White have recorded at least 12 sacks in each of their first four seasons. Parsons claims the Cowboys told his agent a deal had already been made without negotiating and then went silent. “Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else,” he wrote, expressing frustration over the team’s lack of communication.

Public Dispute Reaches New Level

Parsons revealed past conversations with Jerry Jones that he believed were casual turned into unexpected contract discussions. He said his agent, David Mulugheta, was supposed to handle negotiations but was ignored by the team. Meanwhile, Parsons watched as other NFL stars like T.J. Watt and Maxx Crosby landed major deals. He also took issue with Jerry Jones overstating his injury absences and creating negative narratives. “I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization,” he wrote. Despite staying quiet until now, Parsons says he made the difficult decision to move on from the Cowboys. With Dallas having previously managed to sign CeeDee Lamb just before the 2023 season, fans are left wondering whether a similar resolution might be possible—or if this time, it really is the end of the road.
