Michael Pitt, known for his role in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, was arrested Friday in Brooklyn and faces multiple charges stemming from alleged sex crimes and assaults that took place in 2020 and 2021.

According to court records, Pitt is charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, one count of a criminal sexual act in the first degree, one count in the third degree, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of attempted second-degree assault, and one count of second-degree strangulation. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $15,000 bail.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s indictment accuses Pitt of using a cinderblock in a June 2021 assault and of strangling another person in August 2021. The document does not specify how many people are accusing Pitt or their relationship to him.

TMZ was first to report Pitt’s arrest. The Brooklyn DA’s office declined to comment.

Pitt’s attorney, Cary London, dismissed the allegations in a statement to NBC News, saying, “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual. We look forward to proving his innocence through the evidence and not thru the media.”

Pitt, who has been divorced twice, is best known for playing Jimmy Darmody in Boardwalk Empire, which ran from 2010 to 2014. He also portrayed Henry Parker on Dawson’s Creek during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 17.
