Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. has been suspended for 25 games without pay after violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy. The league announced that Portis tested positive for Tramadol, a painkiller often prescribed post-surgery, as noted by the Mayo Clinic.

Portis admitted in a statement that he took the medication while recovering from an elbow injury, acknowledging it was a mistake. He had been using an NBA-approved pain reliever but unknowingly took an unapproved anti-inflammatory pill. “I feel horrible and recognize that I’m responsible for what I put in my body,” he said, apologizing to the Bucks organization and fans.

The 30-year-old expressed disappointment in missing games but vowed to stay ready for the team’s playoff push. Bucks general manager Jon Horst said the organization respects the league’s decision, calling the situation “very difficult” but affirming the team’s support for Portis. “Together we will take this opportunity to grow and will have a better and stronger Bobby and Milwaukee Bucks team,” Horst said, emphasizing Portis’ importance to both the team and the community.
