Earlier this year, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law, died by suicide in Southern California according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. Carrie Romney died when she fell from a five story parking structure in Santa Clarita. Authorities received a call about the incident on Oct. 10 and responded to the scene later that night.

After reviewing all evidence, investigators concluded that the fatal injuries that resulted in Carrie Romney’s death occurred from the fall. There were no indications of foul play from the beginning of the investigation.

A family split prior to the tragic event

Carrie Romney, 64 years old, lived in Valencia. In 2016, she married Mitt Romney’s brother, George Scott Romney. A court record shows that the couple separated legally in late May. George Romney filed for a divorce against Carrie Romney on June 10; however, the two had yet to complete the divorce process at the time of Carrie Romney’s death.

Mitt Romney stated that his family is heartbroken over Carrie Romney’s loss. He also expressed that Carrie Romney was an individual who brought warmth to the lives of his family members. As such, the family asked that it be given some space as it continues to mourn Carrie Romney’s loss.
