Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley, 29, was arrested Thursday night in South Florida following an altercation with Miami Beach police that resulted in officers using a stun gun on him.

The incident began around 11:22 p.m. near 100 9th St., where Kerley was discussing his parked vehicle with officers. Police stated that Kerley’s demeanor became “increasingly aggressive.” When asked to leave the area, Kerley allegedly refused and “assumed a fighting stance.” Officers attempted to arrest him, but after he resisted, they deployed a dart-firing stun gun.

Body-camera footage showed Kerley in a gray hoodie near a police car. The silent video begins with an officer touching Kerley’s chest and wrist, sparking a scuffle. At least four officers struggled to restrain him until one used a yellow-handled stun gun, bringing Kerley to the ground.

“I’m not resisting, I got handcuffs on!” Kerley shouted during the incident, also accusing officers of misconduct and warning them of legal consequences. At one point, he reportedly told officers, “Bro get off my legs, I need my f—ing legs.”

Kerley, who didn’t immediately identify himself as an Olympian, was arrested on charges of battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance.

The sprinter, a two-time Olympic medalist, earned silver in the 100-meter sprint in Tokyo 2021 and bronze in the same event in Paris this past summer. His representatives have not commented on the incident.
