Liam Payne’s funeral took place on Wednesday in southeast England, just over a month after the One Direction star tragically fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The singer, 31, had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system at the time, as revealed by an autopsy. Three individuals have been charged in connection with his death.

After Argentinian authorities released his body earlier this month, Payne’s remains were flown back to Britain for burial.

Harry Styles attended the funeral held Wednesday in Buckinghamshire, England.

The funeral, held at St. Mary’s Church in Amersham, northwest of London, was a private affair attended by close family and friends. His former One Direction bandmates — Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles — joined Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, at the service.

Also present were Cheryl, the mother of Payne’s 7-year-old son, Bear, along with her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts. TV personality James Corden and music mogul Simon Cowell, who formed One Direction on The X Factor in 2010, also attended.

A white horse-drawn carriage carried Payne’s dark blue coffin, adorned with silver handles and white roses. Floral tributes in red and blue spelled out the words “son” and “daddy.”

Although the funeral was closed to the public, some fans and local residents gathered near the church to pay their respects.

Pallbearers carried Liam Payne’s coffin into the church on Wednesday ahead of his funeral.

Following Payne’s death, his family said, “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny, and brave soul.”

His bandmates shared their grief in a joint statement, expressing their devastation and calling him a “brother.”

Liam Payne rose to global fame as a member of One Direction, which sold over 70 million records and achieved four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. He also enjoyed solo success with hits like “Strip That Down” and “Bedroom Floor.”
