In Chicago, Oprah Winfrey delivered an energizing speech at a Democratic convention, rallying support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. She emphasized unity, stating, “This election isn’t about us and them. It’s about you and me and what we want our futures to look like.”

Praising Harris and Walz for their decency and respect, Winfrey also took a swipe at former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, referencing Vance’s controversial comment about “childless cat ladies” in the Democratic Party. She reminded the audience of shared values, saying, “When a house is on fire, we don’t ask about the homeowner’s race or religion…we just try to save them.”

Reflecting on Harris’ journey, Winfrey highlighted her rise as a child of immigrants to becoming Vice President, expressing hope for her future as the 47th president.

Winfrey has long been active in Democratic politics, backing Joe Biden and Harris in 2020 and endorsing candidates like Sen. John Fetterman in crucial Senate races.

In her address, she also honored leading Black women, including Tessie Prevost Williams, a pioneer of school integration in New Orleans, linking her courage to Harris’ experiences in California.
