A rare Paul Skenes baseball card sold for $1.11 million after a two-week auction hosted by Fanatics Collect. The one-of-one debut patch card, autographed and featuring a jersey patch from Skenes’ major league debut, drew 64 bids before the final sale was announced late Thursday. The buyer remains anonymous, and Fanatics Collect will donate its proceeds to the LA Fire Relief Fund.

The 22-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher is set to earn $875,000 this season and will start on opening day. The card, originally found by an 11-year-old in Los Angeles as part of a Christmas gift, gained attention due to Skenes’ rising profile, his relationship with gymnast and influencer Livvy Dunne, and a generous but rejected offer from the Pirates. Fanatics Collect handled the card with “white glove” service ahead of the record-setting sale.

Part of the Topps Chrome Update series, debut patch cards have grown in popularity, but none more so than Skenes’, whose standout rookie season earned him National League Rookie of the Year honors with an 11-3 record and a 1.96 ERA in 23 starts.
