Philadelphia streets were hit with fake ads on Monday featuring Vice President Kamala Harris in an Eagles uniform, falsely claiming her as the “Official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles.” The NFL team quickly denied any involvement, stating they were working with their advertising partner to remove the counterfeit ads.

NBC Philadelphia reported spotting at least six of these ads before they were taken down. The ads included a link to a legitimate, nonpartisan site for voter information, further adding to the confusion.

Intersection Media, the company responsible for the bus stop ads, confirmed that the posters were forcibly placed, not officially paid for, and labeled the incidents as acts of vandalism. The ad boxes, typically locked, were broken into, allowing unauthorized material to be inserted. A city spokesperson verified the physical break-ins.

This incident follows a series of fake political ads proliferating online, including deepfakes of Kamala Harris and AI-generated images of Donald Trump, which have spread misinformation earlier this year. Harris’ campaign has not commented on the incident.
