The football stadium at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami will be renamed after the rapper and producer Pitbull, known as “Mr. 305.”

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez, reached a multiyear deal with FIU, a major public university and Hispanic-serving institution, to rename its Riccardo Silva Stadium to Pitbull Stadium, FIU announced Tuesday.

“This is history in the making,” Pitbull said during the official announcement, expressing his desire to make it “amazing for the students” and inspiring.

As part of the agreement, Pitbull will donate $1.2 million annually for the next five years, with an option to renew for an additional five years, according to FIU. He will also host 10 events per year at the stadium rent-free, including concerts.

Formerly named Riccardo Silva Stadium, Pitbull will be paying $1.2 million annually for the Panthers’ naming rights to the stadium.

FIU Director of Athletics Scott Carr noted that this is the first time an athletics venue has been named after a renowned musician, during the official announcement.

Under the deal, Pitbull will be recognized as the “Official Entrepreneur of FIU Athletics.” His promotional efforts will include creating an “FIU Anthem,” leveraging his social media presence, and appearing at one athletics fundraising event per year. Voli 305, Pitbull’s vodka brand, will also be the preferred brand sold at the stadium.

Beyond his music career, Pitbull has a strong history of promoting education. His nonprofit foundation, SLAM (Sports Leadership Arts and Management), supports over a dozen schools across several states to prepare students for college.

SLAM schools use an innovative curriculum infused with sports, science, technology, and media to engage students. The first SLAM school opened in Miami in 2012, and today, 14 schools in five states serve nearly 10,000 students.
