Taymor McIntyre, the Texas rapper known as Tay-K, has been convicted of murder for the second time, this time for the 2017 fatal shooting of 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio. A jury found McIntyre guilty of murder, though he was acquitted of capital murder, which would have carried an automatic life sentence without parole. He now faces up to life in prison with the possibility of parole as the trial moves into the sentencing phase.

Prosecutors argued that McIntyre attempted to rob Saldivar, a photographer, under the pretense of a photoshoot for a new song before fatally shooting him. The defense challenged the investigation, claiming it relied too heavily on statements from others in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Defense attorney John Hunter told jurors, “You have to do it right. You have to do the work. And this case clearly demonstrates the work wasn’t done.”

McIntyre is already serving a 55-year sentence for the 2016 shooting death of Ethan Walker during a home invasion in Mansfield, near Fort Worth. He gained notoriety in 2017 after releasing his viral hit “The Race” while on the run from authorities in connection to that earlier crime.
