Australian Olympian Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has apologized for the backlash following her controversial performance at the Paris Olympics, but maintains she’s the best B-girl in Australia. The 37-year-old’s routine, which included a kangaroo-like move, went viral, sparking widespread online memes and skits.

In an interview with “The Project,” Gunn expressed sadness over the criticism but emphasized she can’t control others’ reactions. “I think my record speaks to that,” she said when asked about being Australia’s top female breaker.

Gunn, who lectures at Sydney’s Macquarie University, found the media attention overwhelming, admitting it caused her to panic. Despite the controversy, she defended her Olympic effort, stating she worked hard and took the competition seriously.

Raygun’s performance earned the ire of netizens worldwide, with judges giving her a score of zero.

While Gunn didn’t address a Change.org petition accusing her of manipulating the selection process, the Australian Olympic Committee dismissed the claims as “vexatious, misleading and bullying.” AOC CEO Matt Carroll confirmed Gunn was selected fairly through a transparent process.

Breaking has been removed from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with its inclusion in future Games still undecided.
