A head-on collision near Carrizo Springs, Texas, on Thursday resulted in seven fatalities and serious injuries to two children, officials reported.

Around 4:40 p.m. local time, a black Chrysler 300, speeding westbound on FM 1433, lost control and veered into the eastbound lane, crashing into a 1998 red Dodge pickup, said Rene Cordova from the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Del Rio office.

The Chrysler rolled into a ditch and caught fire, killing the driver and three passengers instantly. Their identities remain unknown due to the severity of their injuries.

In the Dodge, the driver and two passengers, identified as Isabel Small, 50; San Juanita De La Cruz, 64; and Victor Manuel Martinez, 83, from Crystal City, Texas, were also pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children in the Dodge were airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio. Their current conditions are unknown.
