Accused sex trafficker Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in a New York courtroom on Wednesday to request bail and protest his treatment at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, where his lawyers argue he faces “horrific” conditions. Combs, who was arrested on three felony counts, including sex trafficking and racketeering, is accused of orchestrating a years-long sexual abuse operation.

His legal team emphasized that Combs had voluntarily surrendered to authorities, which they argue should weigh in favor of his release on bail. They pointed out the dangerous conditions of the federal lockup, noting incidents of violence and suicides, and cited past court rulings that condemned the facility’s conditions. Combs’ defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, highlighted that “numerous courts have raised concerns with the horrific conditions of detention here.”

Prosecutors, however, strongly opposed bail, arguing that Combs is both a flight risk, given his vast wealth, and a danger to the community due to his history of drug abuse and violent behavior. They referenced the presiding Judge Robyn Tarnofsky’s comments from a previous bail hearing, where she noted that Combs’ history of substance abuse makes him a potential threat. Tarnofsky stated, “Your lawyer asked me to trust you and to trust him, and I don’t know that I think you can trust yourself.”

Prosecutors further argued that Combs’ alleged violent acts, his access to weapons, and the severity of the charges—racketeering, sex trafficking, and using transportation for prostitution—necessitate his continued detention. Despite his defense team’s efforts to secure his release, the court is still considering whether Combs will remain in custody pending trial.
