“Not Like Us” has become inescapable, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and permeating pop culture. However, not everyone is thrilled, including Steph Curry.

After USA Basketball’s 105-79 exhibition victory over Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Wednesday, the arena DJ in Abu Dhabi played the Mustard-produced track, prompting the Golden State Warriors star’s frustration.

“Damn with this song. It’s not the only song in America,” Curry said. LeBron James disagreed, enjoying the track’s popularity. “I love it,” James said while gathering his teammates. Shooting guard Anthony Edwards also sided with LeBron, dancing to the song.

Curry’s reaction stirred social media, with Jermaine Dupri commenting on the state of rap culture. “Steph’s reaction to the Kendrick record is ironic. It shows the impact of a record on the streets, something this generation isn’t used to,” he wrote on Instagram. Dupri emphasized that the goal in hip-hop used to be impact over sales or charts.

DJ Jazzy Jeff added, “We used to have a few impactful songs at once to spread it out more. We haven’t had a ‘Lean Back’ or ‘In Da Club’ in so long.”

Kevin Durant defended his former teammate online, saying, “Maybe bro just wanna hear another song.”

Curry may have been surprised to hear “Not Like Us” in the UAE. Team USA could be adopting it as their victory song, as they played it after defeating Canada last week.

It remains to be seen if arena DJs will heed Curry’s plea or continue playing the hit in future games.
