Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for president after the high-stakes debate with Donald Trump. She praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and lauded her choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as running mate, citing his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive freedom.

Swift told her 283 million Instagram followers, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” urging them to register and vote early, especially first-time voters. Her endorsement came as a surprise to the Harris campaign, which viewed it as a significant boost. Walz, informed during a live MSNBC interview, responded by calling Swift’s words “eloquent.”

Though Swift previously avoided politics, she became more vocal after her 2020 documentary “Miss Americana,” where she denounced Senator Marsha Blackburn. In 2020, Swift backed the Biden-Harris ticket, even allowing the campaign to use her song “Only the Young.”

Swift also addressed false AI-generated images that circulated, wrongly claiming she endorsed Trump. These AI images were shared on Trump’s Truth Social. Swift stressed the importance of transparency to combat misinformation.

Trump responded to Swift’s endorsement by criticizing her tendency to support Democrats, suggesting it might hurt her in the marketplace.

Fans, including the unofficial “Swifties for Kamala” group, were excited, expecting her support to bring momentum to Harris’ campaign.
