One of the hardest-hit locations was Camp Mystic, a summer camp for girls in rural Kerr County. At least 27 campers and counselors lost their lives when fast-moving floodwaters overran the site. Survivors described waking up to water pouring through the windows of their cabins. The camp has called the event “catastrophic,” and recovery efforts there are ongoing.

Presidential Schedule Includes Briefings and Family Meetings

The Trumps landed in San Antonio before taking a helicopter to Kerrville. Their visit included a tour of the disaster zone and a roundtable with emergency responders and local leaders. President Trump stated they would also meet with some of the grieving families. The visit is expected to last approximately three hours before the president and first lady depart for Bedminster, New Jersey.

Trump Calls Flooding a Historic Tragedy

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Trump described the flooding as “a horrible thing” and said, “Nobody can even believe it. That much water, that fast.” He has not placed blame on any specific group or agency, instead calling the disaster a “hundred-year catastrophe.” The president said he delayed his visit to avoid hindering ongoing rescue operations.

Federal Aid Authorized to Support Recovery

In response to the flooding, Mr. Trump approved a disaster declaration, which allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist with rescue and relief efforts. FEMA teams are now working alongside local crews as the region begins the long road to recovery. The declaration ensures additional resources will be made available to impacted communities. Officials stress that the search for missing persons remains the top priority.

First Lady Shares Message of Support

On social media, Melania Trump offered her condolences to the affected families. She posted, “My heart goes out to the parents in Texas during this difficult time. I am holding you in my thoughts and sending prayers for strength, comfort, and resilience.” Her words reflect the emotional weight the tragedy has placed on the nation.
