San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama will miss the rest of the season due to a blood clot in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday. The condition was discovered after Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco.

The 21-year-old center has quickly established himself as one of the league’s top big men, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.6 blocks this season. The Spurs, currently 12th in the Western Conference with a 23-29 record, will now have to finish the season without their star player.

Wembanyama, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft, entered the league with unprecedented expectations, drawing comparisons to LeBron James. He won NBA Rookie of the Year last season after averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game. He also became the first player in NBA history to record at least 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 made three-pointers in a single season.
