Authorities arrested Jan Johnson of Clements, California, after discovering 27 dead horses across multiple properties during an animal neglect investigation. Deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, alongside Animal Services officers, executed a search warrant and found malnourished horses with limited access to food or water.

The investigation led to the rescue of 16 horses now under the care of Oakdale Equine Rescue, where they are receiving medical attention and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, four horses and one bull had to be euthanized due to severe neglect, while evaluations of other animals continue.
